Questions Parents Ask
Clear answers to the questions that often come first.

Can myopia be cured?
Current myopia-management treatments aim to slow progression. They do not cure myopia or guarantee that a prescription will stop changing. Ortho-K's vision-correction effect is temporary and requires continued prescribed wear.
When should we ask about treatment?
An examination is appropriate when a child has nearsightedness, a changing prescription or concerns about distance vision. Family history and age help inform the discussion. Suitability and approved age ranges vary by treatment.
Which option works best?
There is no single choice for every child. Prescription, eye health, progression, readiness for lenses and family preferences all matter. We discuss the evidence and practical responsibilities together.
Can children handle contact lenses?
Many children learn successfully with instruction and parental support. Readiness depends on hygiene, motivation and consistent care. Contact lenses carry risks, including infection, so training and follow-up are essential.
How long does treatment continue?
The plan is reviewed as your child grows. Duration and follow-up depend on the treatment and the child's response. Changes or stopping decisions should be made with the treating doctor.
Will insurance cover it?
Coverage varies by plan and service. Myopia-management programs may involve out-of-pocket costs. Our team can explain the proposed services and fees before you decide.
Does outdoor time help?
Regular outdoor time is encouraged as part of healthy visual habits. It does not replace prescribed care. Ask your doctor how to balance outdoor activity, close work and your child's treatment.

How do you check whether myopia is progressing?
We review changes in prescription and eye health and use our OCULUS Myopia Master to track axial length over time. Your doctor interprets the pattern rather than relying on one measurement. Read more about our myopia risk exam.
